Our Sprocker is 10 months old and until now hasn't come into season. I put her out for a wee this afternoon in our back garden and 5 minutes later looked out of the kitchen window to see her sat on the bank of our garden with a black lab that had wondered up from the workshop at the other end of the farm where his owner was working. I don't think they did anything but I can't be sure, he was rather excited though and it kept peeping out (sorry if too much info!) but when I looked a bit closer she appears to be in season (small amount of blood), we hadn't noticed it so she can't be very far in at all, maybe only a day. And now I'm really paranoid.

I took the lab back to his owner who said thanks, he keeps wondering off at the moment. Great! Don't take him to work and leave him to his own devices... Said lab is 11 months old and still entire...

Going to ring the vet in the morning but wondered what the chances are of her being receptive and accepting him? We obviously don't want pups (well in the future, but to a chosen stud dog!) so does anybody know how much the injection is roughly so I can prepare myself (and tell the boyfriend when he gets in)... Please don't jump on me for being irresponsible she will be straight in the vet tomorrow and now kept under lock and key- this is her first season. I just want to know the facts as I'm worrying myself silly! :(

All bitches are different but usually you will be able to tell when a bitch is receptive bythe change in colour/consistency of the discharge (day 9 onwards is most common but Ive known bitches would stand for a dog from day 5!!). It is no longer as 'bloody' and the vulva will be much enlarged and flaccid.

From what you have said it is unlikely she will have got caught. The mismate jab can be effective but can also have side effects so best to discuss with your vet
