I am planning on having my labrador bitch speyed, and she had her first season at the beginning of December. I know you are recommended to leave them 3 months until they are speyed, so this would take her to the beginning of March.

Due to several reasons she has not yet been speyed. We are now in the position to be able to book her in. Before I go into the vets and pay £30 to be told I have to wait and end up looking like a wombat, does anybody know if it's too late for her to be speyed? Will I have to wait until after her next season?

Thanks!

You will be ok, cannot see a reason for them not to do her

no you can get her speyed whenever you wnat! doesn't have to be straight after a season! you can get bitches speyed before their first season, but some people just prefer to let them have one!

You will be fine!

Its apparently all to do with their hormone levels.

I have just had both of my lab bitches spayed, the young one was 8 months, and although some vets are reluctant to spay before a first season, my vet was happy to do it and my last bitch was spayed at 6 months and lived a happy life of 17 yrs before she died, my other bitch was 3 at her speying and was it was done right between her seasons as they asked. Best thing we ever had done, we have had puppies and never again, and the myth of them putting on weight after a spay is rubbish, my two havent put on any and my last bitch was always very slight.

You'll be fine. It's meant to be done no less than 6 weeks after a season and no more than 6 weeks before one. Your timiing will be pretty much spot on. One of our Huskies was done 4 weeks ago and her last season was early November, so pretty much the same as yours on timing.
