I have just been up to exercise Ollie and been informed that he's bitten one of the grooms on the head! She does have red hair so maybe he thought she was a giant carrot?! Seriously, I have apologised profusely and she is fine about it. He used to be a bit "nippy" when I first got him but he never, ever gets fed treats by hand now (I suspect he did before I got him) and I thought he had stopped doing it. I feel v guilty.

Don't feel bad, at the end of the day horses are horses and they are all capable of biting. Louis had a bad habbit of biting when I bought him and it took a while to get him out of it. He still thinks about it every now and then but normally just makes a face in my direction or bites himself in frustration! He occasionally takes the odd nip out of someone if he thinks he can get away with it

He also bit someone last week as she was making a feed next to his stable door and she leaned over to pick it up and he managed to bite her bum...

Out of interest how did you get him out of the biting habit?

My new horse is a bit of a nipper - although he's getting better.
 
Ever since the first day of owning my horse he was trying to bite people in the stable. He is fine to handle outside of the stable. However, when stabled he does not like people outside his box, esp if they are looking at him. I've had him for 7 yrs now and he has bitten me 3 or 4 times but I feel pretty confident he would not try it these days. We have an understanding!

He is fine with the other girls who handle him. Generally as long as people don't faff and do what they've got to do and don't stand outside the box looking at him he is fine. I wonder if he was beaten before he came to me.

I don't know. It's the way he has always been. He never gets hand fed treats - I have signs on his door.
 
Don't know that I did all that much really. I just make sure that he is never hand fed treats and if he made a lunge for me I just sort of "blocked" him with my body and made a harsh "ah ah" noise. I use the same noise with my cats and dog and they all seem to understand that it means stop/back off!
