Hi hope I am posting in the correct place.

What would be the reason for a bit being full of gouges and scratches from the horses teeth?

It's a happy tongue bit and the port is scratched all along the underside and the right side of the front has big gouges in it as well as scratches.

I would say this is a bit more than chewing ? Am very concerned.

Oh boy I hope not. He's had two doses of treatment and is looking normal for a change. I was considering scoping but apprently it doesn't pick up hind gut ulcers anyway?

No scoping won't pick up hind gut, as the scope cant reach there.

If he has had ulcer treatment and an improvement shown, then you have your answer.
at least it's something that can be treated.

The last treatment was quite a while ago and he normally looks very ribby and tucked in and hasn't gone back to that since the last treatment but this bit is a month or two old.

Is there an easy way to post a picture on here?

Ok so change the bit and if he is still doing it get the vet to give a full course of treatment

Sorry not an easy way to post pictures. But doesn't matter what bit looks like if you suspect it's still happening

P's neither of mine looked like ulcer horses. Both had good weight and shiny coats. One had treatment and was ok for 6/7 months then they came back and had to have another course of treatment
