Bitless Bridle Petition

I think it is only dressage in which they are not allowed isn't it?? You can certainly use them for SJ and they have been very popular at times.

To be honest I'm not sure that someone in a hackamore could compete on an equaal footing alongside someone in a snaffle at dressage, the action and effect is so different. The range of bits allowed for dressage is very limited for good reason - to ensure an even playing field.

Surely though competing in a bitless bridle would require MORE training and obedience to do the same moves than a bit so if people want to they should be able to, its not like they are using draw reins in a test to maintain a shape or something.

no thanks.

a bitless bridle can exert a lot more pressure than a snaffle so if we are going to allow bitless bridles we should be allowing every type of bit as well.

I'd agree that the mild Dr Cook style ones should be dressage legal, but definitely not hackamores. I'm so picky about who rides my PBA in his as it's incredibly severe. In the wrong hands he'd soon be doing forward roly-polys!

I can see your point and I can only comment on the Dr Cooks & the transformation it made to my mare. I am by no means an expert on the various bitless bridles available.:)

I think that "bitless bridle" in the case of this petition means the cross-under type, not the usual English/German hackamore type. I've signed.

I think for a petition to put forwards to the FEI to try and change the rulings...it needs a lot more wording and finer details explaining exactly what they want.
Maybe keep it similar to the snaffle ruling? Basic bitless allowed up until that point. [But then you'd have ussies then having your horse used to working in a double?]

I'm undecided on it. I'd just be stumped how they would mark it on a completely even unbiased playing field...

But then, I also think a true Grand Prix dressage horse working to it's full in proper tack....nothing looks better :)

I'm definitely in favour of such a campaign, but there doesn't seem to be anything on the site about who is running the petition - could it not just be someone collecting lots of e-mail addresses to then advertise to?

To be honest I wouldn't have too much of a problem signing if it was more specifically worded. I do not think that hackamores have a place in dressage although I can see that a Dr Cooks type bitless bridle might ok, certainly at lower levels it might even be a good thing!

I'm all for Dr Cooks being permitted for BD competitions , the petition seems a little weird though? Surely something more formal would be better?

The Petition is a bit vague really. I have no objections to bitless but agree that some can be extremely harsh.(I drive bitless, not allowed by the BDS)
