Just wondering if anyone knows if you can compete at unaffiliated dressage in a bitless bridle? I don't think you can use a hackamore, but not entirely sure. Thanks.

Nope as most are run under BD rules. They may allow you to go HC if they are really nice - but even then I'm not sure

it's fliiping stupid.
You would think in this day and age they would change the rules and allow for bitless to be more "acceptable".

I ride all mine bitless and the only way I can do dressage is through Interdressage

Dressage is all about the relationship with energy and bridle, its classical stuff so will never accept bitless.

Have you tried you horse in a mullen mouth bit, no joint or the snaffle with the Cambridge mouthpiece. Has a low port that allows for the tongue.

Riders here in NZ are starting to run competitions for horses in bitless bridles. Start a club in your area that caters for bitless riding.

Cambridge mouthpiece isn't legal either.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

He is very, very sensitive and believe me I don't have heavy hands! He argues with a contact and throws his head up and becomes 'backward' thinking.

He goes so well bitless and is much happier to work forward into a 'contact'.

Still, rules is rules I suppose....

I thought dressage was all about the control of rider over horse, and the response of horse to rider. Surely it can be proven via bitless as well as via a bit.

Sorry, I don't 'do' dressage, and my horses are bitted, but it is a bugbear

You should try him in a nathe mullen mouth loose ring snaffle, it is one of the mildest bits you can get.

I agree BD are annoying not allowing people to go bitless
