i've just found out my local stables where i took my pony to our first show last year are doing a "have a go dressage" and i'd love to have a go!!!!

my pony wears a dutch gag on first small ring for everything as he gets excited and strong about the silliest thing. i know that dutch gags are a no no for dressage,, so would what you advise i try him in?? i cant use a hanging cheek as this is the same as the gag on snaffle ring and he knows he can take the pee, even in the school, never mind at a show!!! i'm thinking maybe pelham??? but would i go for roundings or double reins? its not till aug so i have plenty time to practise and try things out.

also, i bought a tweed jacket for in hand last year, would i get away with this or shall i get a black or navy one? dark green would be perfect as that's our colour.

its just a bit of fun, but i do like to try my best! many thanks expert people x

A pelham is not legal for dressage and certainly not with roundings. However, some 'have a go' competitions let you use any bit, so it would be worth asking the organisers about it.

A tweed jacket will be fine, wear beige, white or canary jods and light coloured gloves if pos but any colour will not get you penalised as long as you do wear them!

Don't use a coloured saddlecloth, white is the norm but black will do if you don't have a white one.

Good luck and enjoy!

cool! so hopefully i wont have to buy much at all. i need gloves, hve a black numnah. and need to do lots of practise! my canter to trot transitions take about half a circle at the mo, cheeky blighter! cheers :)

Ask the orginisers, they may allow you to use your gag since its just a fun "have a go" dressage.
Your tweed jacket will be fine and so will a black numnah. Just need some nice yellow gloves and jodhs to match your tweed jacket! :)
