So just having a good old clean out of the tack room. I’ve got about 50 bits collected over the years and I’d say about 15 of them aren’t any good any more so I was wondering if you had any ideas for making something out of them? If you’ve seen anything online interesting? Instead of just throwing them away. X

If you have a traditional pub near you, they used to put them up above the bar as decoration, along with bits of harness etc. Doesn't seem so popular now. :(
As for making anything with them, perhaps belt/handbag decoration?

Not sure if you have your own place or not, I got a concrete wash pad made and set old shoes and bits randomly into the concrete, looks great and is often admired. Do you have a rustic type garden you could hang then or nail then onto your trees.

aw thank you those are great ideas, I’ve got both and was just redoing the wash station xx

When I had a massive tack room clear out a couple of years ago I sold the majority of it on ebay and was going to bin whatever was left as it wasn't really of much value . However , when I counted up all the odds and ends I had left there were about 500 items - I'm talking about everything from bits to brushes , odd cheek pieces and bits of tack , leathers , bit guards , browbands , flash straps , curb chains , irons , poultice boots etc etc - all the small random bits and bobs you accumulate over 40 years of owning horses . I decided to take them to a local car boot sale , roughly grouped stuff in boxes and had a massive sign saying everything was just £1 . Went down a storm and I sold nearly everything ! Obviously you can't do that whilst we're in lockdown but if you've got a lot of stuff it might be worth hanging on for a bit - it never fails to amaze me how many people are perfectly happy to part with £1 in exchange for random rubbish !
Interesting footnote - I put all the bits in a big tub at the front of our table so that people could have a root through . They were mostly snaffles , which don't seem to sell too well on ebay , with a few of those odd ones that you somehow acquire over the years but never use . It quickly became apparent that the snaffles appeared to be very popular with groups of young east European men who were buying multiple bits and looking very pleased with their purchases . I was imagining all sorts of reasons for this but eventually one of them explained that they would send them back home because they couldn't get decent quality ones there and , interestingly, they were only interested in the snaffles and just chucked the other bits to one side . So towards the end of the day there were only a few bits left in the tub as yet another young man came to have a rummage through . He straightened up slowly holding aloft a bit that had come with a horse I had bought that came with his tack - although I had never used that particular bit on him I hasten to add . It was a fearsome looking gag with massive shanks and a cherry roller mouthpiece . The chap jangled the bit in the air and said something in his native tongue .
' I'm sorry - I don't understand '. I said .
He rattled the bit some more and shook his head .
' No idea' I said and shrugged .
He reached over the table , took hold of my hand and lightly slapped my wrist . ' Bad . Very bad !' he said , shaking his head , then dropped the bit in the bucket and ambled off .
I was strangely pleased !

haha love this, gave me a chuckle. Thank you ?

For the useable ones you can bang nails along the top of the wall and have them hanging. Looks great and very handy when assessing what you do have.

Similar to this but right near the top in a line as more out of the way.
