hi, i wondered if you could help me, my daughters heavyweight cob is pulling a lot and leaning on his bit while hacking, in the show ring and jumping, he is currently rode in a vulcanite Pelham, i was wondering if you could help me and perhaps recommend a different bit.

Thanks

Why not try a waterford. They are very severe if you saw on the reins but otherwise fairly comfortable for them to hold in their mouth - it's so felxible. Try and get one with rounded links, not square. They are good for horses who lean. If you're daughter is a little wobbly with her hands at all, buy (or make) some elastic inserts.

I would try something with a port to relieve any pressure on his tongue. Does she ride with one rein or 2? If she's competent in 2 reins you can go for a bigger or smaller port (which help with leaning), and longer or shorter shanks according to what you need, or even try a double.

Equiport (google them) do a high port, long shank pelham to order and my cob goes beautifully in it...it looks like a torture implement but he is like silk in it (was tanking in company before hand).
