Hello. Done county workers in the past so know a bit.... excuse the pun BUT got a nice 4yr old for the ridden hunters this year (MW) goes nicely in a snaffle but got him entered for the amateur (decided HW) RIHS qualifiers at the Royal ,Swansea and Three counties. Shall I go for a double bridle,Rugby pelham or the snaffle. Dont want to look like a complete amateur . He is unfussy and am sure he would go well in all although yet to try as still to buy..........
(also entered for the 4 yr olds and what bit should I have in for that???)

I would always go for a double if they ride well in it. Yopu are permitted to ride 4 yr olds in snaffles but the professioanls rarely do and i reckon that the sooner they learn to go in a double the better!

I wud only use a rugby pelham etc if they dotn go well in the double or if they have a small mouth? big toungue etc! good luck!

If you really want to qualify, you will need either a pelham or double bridle. It would be vey unusual for a horse to wear a snaffle in any class other than workers or a novice class. The rugby pelham is quite a sharp bit, but try them out and see what works best - you have a week or two to see what you both prefer.
