I use a different bits at different times -
SJ and hacking (incase we go for a good canter) - Waterford gag reins on 2nd ring
XC - Waterford gag reins on bottom ring
Dressage and schooling - Snaffle

So what do you use?

This for most:

Daughter's horse goes in a no pinch single jointed fulmer, youngsters start in a french link dee ring.

all mine go in loose ring french link snaffles, rarely need anything more than that even for fast work. saying that though ive just my youngster in a KK full cheek lozenge snaffle

Change around between a fulmer french link and a hanging cheek french link, the girl is generally ridden in the fulmer but will sometimes bring out the hanging cheek as a reminder for her.

Now looking to put her into a snaffle however for general schooling, although she will go back into a hanging cheek for her first outing!

Ayla -French link Baucher, she`s goes well in it...have been advised to use a waterford because she`s started leaning but i dont want to rely on a bit to stop my horse leaning, i`ll work on it whilst schooling :)

Roxy - Dutch gag, its the only bit she goes well in, have tried loads and loads and this is the only one she is happy in, she hates snaffles and french links but loves a straight bar, will be changing her over to a straight bar snaffle soon to see if she goes in it ok.... use pelham roundings on her gag which isnt the best i know but OH doesnt know how to use doubles and single reins are just wrong :)

French link loose ring snaffle for most things. When he's in one of those 'moods' D ring snaffle with copper rollers, we have a very strong bit for just in case, but we have never used it *touch wood* :)

Loose ring french link snaffle for schooling
Full cheek waterford for hacking, xc and sj
Waterford dutch gag with 2 reins on snaffle and bottom ring for hunting and hacking in company!
All with grackle noseband but drop for dressage.

Forgot to say sometimes can jump at home and hack in the snaffle if not cantering with others as i need more brakes then.

the above was for Mystic.

Monty has a full cheek french link.

Mollie in in a gag for everything but dressage which she has a french link hanging cheek.

Ruby has a happy mouth french link hanging snaffle
Rupert has a french link with full cheeks
and Flo has a happy mouth single jointed snaffle with full cheeks.

Rupert & Flo are both babies, so I like the cheeks for assistance with steering. :)

I alternate Dela between a pelham, snaffle and double bridle. The double is used for my lesson and competitions. The snaffle is used when she gets to deep in the pelham, and the pelham is used when I want to work her really soft.

So usually she has the double on for 2 days a week (lesson and a competition - if we do a competition), the snaffle for 2 or 3 days and the pelham for 1 or 2. And she is ridden 6 times a week usually.

Wings - french link snaffle for everything (was in gag but upped the schooling and downed the bit strength, and found he goes sweetly with a grackle in, and no flash on the flat, just plain caverson)

Casper - single jointed snaffle for everything (did not get on with the french link, loves this bit)

Monica - eggbutt jointed snaffle for everything (was in dutch gag, but has softened in her mouth now)

prince (tb) wears a loose ring happy mouth snaffle for dressage, and he used to wear a waterford hanging cheek for any faster work like jumping or funrides. but as it doesnt look like hel jump again hel stay in his happy mouth, he has a very soft mouth so i like it to stay that way.
grace (tbXish) she wears a french link full cheek snaffle, she can be abit nappy (sp) so steering can be an issue but since using this steering has improved, she doesnt appear to be strong so shel stay in that. i dont like to mess around with bits to much, stick to what they're happy with.

Fee- Loose ring snaffle with a twirlt lozenge thing :D
Chalky- French link snaffle Dressage, SJ and XC atm I have him in a dutch gag on 2nd ring, might look into a pelham for hunting and XC though :p

All the others we have had on a normal snaffle or with link :)

mine goes in a neue schule uiversal gag with curb strap for every thing dont do dressage comps as can be difficult to ride in a snaffle and also like to sit on the for hand (due to past back probems) so needs that little help to encourage to sit up befor anyone says anthing i do ride from my leg and have a soft hand :)
