Bitter-sweet memories of Tweseldown!

Reading the rest of the posts brings back memories! :D

Instructing at camp over several years (terrible when I had daughter then attend too lol!). Coming back all grimy after a session xc as lots of dust kicking up.
Naughty campers getting up to tricks in the evenings & during the night. (who was it set an alarm clock under my lorry to go off at 3am!!!???)

Then seeing the young riders progress onwards over the years, picking out names in H&H, or seeing them at events we were at.

Nostalgic days :)

Hi Fuzzy Furry.. I have PM'd you back and yes you remember correctly! It is the Lizzie and Smartie you 'certainly' remember..! Is that a good thing? We weren't always in control and did used to jump as much as we could, as high as we could and I was probably a little devil too.. !

I'm not owning up to the alarm clock prank (although that was a good one) but I could have been responsible for others!

Happy Days!

Wow - I remember that name.. she was a fair bit older than me!

The older girls used to tell us younger ones that if you had cold showers it was good for your red blood cells and that would make you a better rider! We actually all took cold showers so they'd get the hot water.......! Seriously...!

v jealous of all these PC memories. I didn't start riding properly until I was 12 and spent 7yrs begging and borrowing rides, mostly working at riding schools until I got my first horse aged 19 - bit old for PC by then :( Still got my fab first horse though :D
Me too :( Although I did steal my cousin's neighbours pony and did a couple of rallies with the Old Surrey. I have a vivid memory of jumping down a grid where all the fences were at an angle, pony (been there, got the t-shirt type) decided I was getting too cocky and dropped me at Lucy Thompson's feet  :o

Still have my first pony who I bought when I was 21, he's an utter dude and I wish I could have done PC on him!

My mums proper event horse in particular loved it there and when he died we went and spread his ashes on top of the big hill at Twesledown so he can gallop along with all the event horses.

Thats a lovely thing to do. I'd have loved to have done something like that with Smartie but unfortunately he was really badly injured in the car accident and I doubt it was on anyones minds.
I'm so soppy but the thought of your horse galloping along with us will probably run through my mind next time I'm flying round there!

Have come into this post rather late (busy week - including schooling at Tweseldown yesterday, fab time in the sunshine!).

My pony club experiences with camp at Tweseldown were as an instructor (HH). Remember being totally black with the dust after standing in the middle of a circle of ponies for a lesson. One girl (called Rosemary I think) had an artificial leg which would come loose if we worked without stirrups. I also remember a rather boozy evening after the BBQ where Robert Lemieux and I were doing yoga in the old club house with the other instructors! The place was infested with mosquitos (or worse) and I got bitten to death that evening. As you've guessed this was a looong time ago.

My own PC camp experiences were with the Cheshire Forest - anybody remember the camps at Brimstage Hall? One year we were invited to go swimming at Lord Leverhulme's place but I got kicked in the head that day and had to spend the evening in A&E :(
