we have a 12.2 section b, a real sweetie. He has the loveliest softest mouth and is not forward going at all. We bought him with his saddle but no bridle and I'm wondering the best bit. At the moment my daughter is riding him in my youngsters straight bar snaffle which I know is more for in hand work (all my youngster is doing) but he goes rather nicely in it. Is it ok for riding in? I tried him in a rubber eggbut but he keeps snatching the reins and doesn't look as happy in this. Any advice anyone? I def like the rubber bits, I was thinking of a happy mouth? Or keep him in the little straight bar?
Thanks:)

well I've just bought a mullen mouth eggbutt for my welsh pony...he came with a single jointed eggbutt and was pretty obvious he didnt like it. Tried a french link and was a bit happier but the most dramatic change was the mullen...amazing difference so I have ordered him one as the one I tried is my big lads. Funny how both mine like exctly the same bit :D

Many people when fitting bits to small ponies (and some horses too) worry about the width of the bit but not the thickness.
Although a thicker bit is kinder it is often to thick for a small pony to close its mouth comfortably so, a thin bit is better.

If he is happy with what you are using, continue to use it.
