Bitting advice for Ozzy

Just a quick update...we tried Ozzy with an Expert Bits Myler-type barrel - with a loose ring - and he seems very happy with it!
He is still a little bit dubious about having his bridle on but much, much better.
And he seems really quiet in the mouth and comfortable with it!

I think one of the reasons I have always gravitated towards NS bits is the Salox, it just seems a bit 'warmer' than stainless steel. (Or am I falling for the hype?)
Ozzy's new bit is stainless steel. I did warm it up before using it today...does anyone else have strategies for making sure bits are warm before use?

I have thought about it. I think in the past I may have run it under the tap where we had warm water at the yard.

If it’s really cold, I stick his saddle cloth on under his rug for a while to warm that up before putting the saddle on top of it.

Glad you’ve hopefully found something that works

Shove it down my jumper, pour warm water over it, rapidly exhale warm air on it like I’m having an asthma attack, not always in that order.

I don’t think it’s ‘soft’ to warm a bit up. I think it just shows respect for the horse, especially when some tack rooms and bits positively freeze overnight in winter.

I used to shove Keratex hoof putty in my bra to warm it up and make it malleable. Sometimes I’d forget that it was there until it rolled out onto the floor when getting undressed at nighttime 🤣.

I think that there’s less likelihood of forgetting that you’ve got a metal bit nestling in your underwear.

I am quite lazy, so I put the bit in my bra before even bringing the horse out of the paddock. Heating a bit up with cold hands is not too efficient, but this works great. Especially if you're alone... probably wouldn't want to do it around other people.

One wonders where gentleman riders warm their bits
