As above, I am after advice on a bit for my sensitive mare. She was ridden by a bloke who socked her in the teeth over every fence, plus she has a severely scarred tongue. I jump/xc in a 3 ring happy mouth, which she goes nicely in, but if I take too strong a contact she does not like it (fair enough I know!). I need a bit for dressage, tried a happy mouth hanging cheek, but felt it was too restrictive (just a feeling). Any ideas? Thanks

Nathe straight (flexible) bar? So much softer and more flexible than a happy mouth and comes in a full range of rings / cheeks etc.

I'd try a straight bar with a port. The straight bar will work on the bars of the mouth not the tongue and the port will give her tongue room. I have a ported nathe for schooling, Kimble wick for hacking and jumping with the curb action for breaks! And just purchased a magic bit for dressage as the port in my nathe is too high to be dressage legal.

Interestingly, my instructor lent me a double jointed full cheek snaffle, so I decided to try that today, and she seemed to really like it, I am wondering whether to try to get a happy mouth in that?
