Disclaimers first:
Its not my horse, She has teeth and back checked regularly and tbh she has always been like this its not new.

I am keeping the weight off my friends mare for her while she deals with life issues. The mare is a really nice person 15hh but is not the most comfortable ride. She walks too fast choppy trot charges off in canter. A lot of this is because she copes with any rider movement by speeding up. You cant use too much leg and ceratinly darent carry a whip.

She doesnt feel good on the end of the rein I cannot get a nice soft contact.
You have to have hardly anything on the end of the rein and if you try and close your hand as part of a half halt she sets her jaw and tanks.

There must be a way and I am probably missing the point her current bit is a neue schule verbindend so not harsh in anyway.

I have improved her canter loads by asking for walk to canter because if you canter from trot it is rushing trot to tanking canter.

We school in a field not an arena so this doesnt help as there arent a load of flat bits but I try and use the undulations to my advantage.

Sounds a bit like my mare.
But I changed her into a NS Verbindend and she goes lovely.
What about a hanging cheek, a bit of poll pressure so she doesn't run through you? Although by the sounds of things she may run away from the poll pressure.
A waterford? She won't be able to grab hold of that as much, there is nothing to grab hold of!!
What is she fed? What bit/noseband is she ridden in now?

Ok she is fed fresh air and grass with just a bit of something I know not what she has a william Micklem bridle. I had wondered about a waterford. I'll liaise we must know someone who will lend us one.
