Any bitting tips?

Lil is currently schooling in a loose ring KK snaffle with a lozenge. She goes nicely but I have s*d all in the way of brakes. I know we'll get there with more schooling but I can't help but wonder if she might be better in something else that is dressage legal but has a little more to it.

Jumping wise we tried her in a pelham tonight and it was much the same, she completely ignores you and goes at whatever speed she fancies. She doesn't tank off, just keeps going when you'd like to stop or slow down. I was worried it was my poor riding but my much more experienced friend had a sit and she said she hasn't got brakes either!

does she open her mouth at all to evade the bit? in which case a drop noseband, flash or grackle might help on the brakes......

O maybe a bit with a roller in so she has something to play with and focus on??

you don't wanna whack a huge big gag in her to stop her as then ul have no chance with anything else!

if you want a slightly stronger dressage legal snaffle, drop cheek piece snaffles (french baucher) are good........

She does open her mouth a little but not hugely. She came to me in a flash noseband but I've experimented with taking it off as she really doesn't like it and gnashes on the bit. I have wondered about trying her in a drop instead.

some horses prefer a drop as its just the one strap still which is more comfortable I think (but every horse is different)

so that might be worth a try before changing the bit...... especially if she is happy in the bit. (even if you are still trying to find the stop button :) )
