Hi guys hoping to pick your brains.
my mare goes pretty well on the flat in a simple jointed snaffle. X-country schooling however is a different matter! She bombs along on the forehand with a VERY low head carriage, using this as an invasion and basically taking the piss and tanking off with me. I have periodically tried her in a Waterford but she drops behind the contact in this. She has a very sensitive mouth.
Mouth conformation wise she has a small tongue and plenty of room in her mouth.
We are having regular lessons and can now SJ in a snaffle but XC I am physically not strong enough to get her head up and she gets worse the more I fight her.
So in this situation what bit would you use? I am leaning towards a running gag but don’t really want two reins going XC ? I am hoping someone will have the magic solution!

I wouldn’t go straight to a running gag personally. Agree with spotty_pony about trying a universal. You also have the option to use a curb strap. Do you change noseband for XC? I favour a grackle for faster work.

Great thanks guys, my YO has one knocking around which I can try. No don’t usually change noseband she is just in a padded cavesson normally.
