Bitting help?!?

So when I first had hunni she was a little strong for me and I rode her in a gag, but now we are doing
more stuff with her I can tell it's hurting her mouth more, it would rub her mouth and she would lean on the bit constantly, her old owner rode her in a d ring snaffle, someone told me that a hanging cheek snaffle is a little stronger than a d ring but not has harsh as a gag, is this true? I put her in a hanging cheek snaffle and she is going well so far

No bit that fits correctly and suits the horses mouth should be hurting it, it is the hands at the end of the reins that do that or the bit is not right for the horse, you do really need to find one that suits you both, your instructor would be the best placed person to advise.

The gag could be too thick, she may prefer a french link, a horse that is uncomfortable in its mouth will often lean even if it hurts, a hanging cheek may give a little more control as it will be more stable in the mouth, it is not strong as such and may be thinner than the gag so less to lean on.

Has she had her teeth done recently to eliminate that as a reason for her being strong.

Sounds like it was the wrong size. Also, I have a mare with a very thick tongue, I therefore need a thin bit, maybe, as said, the gag is to thick for her mouth.

It's the right size but I think it was to harsh for her as she isn't that strong
