I am trying to find a bit that is a bit more than the loose ring happymouth straight bar thingy I ride him in.

Owing to the fact that the idiot that broke Bruce in clamped his gob shut, he is really sharp in his mouth and HATES anything with a joint in it (which limits me somewhat) he goes really gobby and hates it. This somewhat limits my choice! He really does hate it and goes better in something that is not jointed.

Now the snaffle does me for everything but I do feel like I need something extra when hacking and probably for cross country when I get round to doing it.

He has got a mouth like butter which I don’t want to spoil I hacked him in a Pelham (rubber) at the weekend but he is really overbitted in it and it takes a lot of leg to keep him from being over bent?

Please please help me! Thanking you!

If this mouthpiece suits him, then maybe just try a baucher in the same mouthpiece. it will give you the teeniest bit of poll pressure (and even thhat is debateable!) but will still be soft on his mouth?

Myler mullen mouth snaffle, dressage legal, still straight mouth but has a little bit of idependant movement without squeezing the tongue....

I have this prob with my horse and I use a hackamore when I need brakes and a hanging cheek straight bar snaffle the rest of the time.

Also I'm sure that Happy Mouth do a dutch gag with a straight bar mouthpiece.

I know it it is jointed, but how about a variety of French link? My mare was more settled on that than most because it spread across her tongue better and hated standard snaffles. It could be to do with his tongue as well, if he has a big fat tongue he won't have much space, so the standard jointed bits will hurt.
