I have a 13.2 welshie I broke in this year. She is ridden in a french link fulmer and likes it. In the school and on hacks she is not at all strong but a friends daughter has started jumping her and going xc - she LOVES xc - she goes like a bullet! What would be the next step for her, something still mild but just not so easy for her to blank out. If anything she puts her head down, but not a lot.
Thanks for any advice.

I don't know a filet baucher...will go google.
Am worried a dutch gag is too severe, whats it like if you just put it on the main ring? I do have a happy mouth one somewhere that should fit. I dug out a wilkie, but its not wide enough.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Edited to say, found it and I;d call it a hanging cheek, but its a good idea.

Also, see if you can get a Filet Baucher with a Waterford mouth, that's really good but power there if you need it. I love Dutch Gags because of the versatility, the snaffle ring has a little more poll action than a Filet Baucher and you can go down if horse is feeling bonkers/rider is feeling nerous! Hope this helps.

Isn't a waterford severe though? It is for a child to use, so not always the most controlled. I love my waterford snaffle and hunt in it, but for a pony?

I have dug out a kimblewick but it has a huge port.

No, aslong as the child doesnt saw!! It has no nut cracker action at all, as the joints are completely mobile, so it just means the horse cant get hold of it

OK, well I'm a huge fan of them so happy to try that, what about the hanging cheek type that mimi146 suggested, better than a snaffle?
