Hi
Firstly thanks to everyone who posted on my last thread with loads of ideas for my horse who HATED the trailer- loading and travelling. When I did finally load him he went bananas- bucking and broncing& sweating buckets :(
Ive spent hours upon hours trying to get him used to the trailer. This week I took out all the partitions & managed to get him to walk (aka gallop) through the trailer- he didn't even want to keep all 4 feet on the trailer for any longer than necessary :( . I couldnt get the central metal pole out so left this in.
Tonight I shut the front unload(including the window) and managed to take out the central middle pole.
Donned my hat, took a deep breath and took him out the stable ... And... He just ambled up the ramp and stood on the trailer and ate his cubes quite happily- all nice and chilled!? Reversed him off the ramp, repeated a few times and he was completely chilled.
No idea what all that's about- maybe he didn't like the partitions or standing on the side of the trailer or unloading at the front?
I didn't attempt to close the ramp- my nerves wouldn't have taken it. Thing is- how should I progress from here without getting squashed without the front bars in! If he does kick off there is nothing between me or him.
I've read it's ok to travel a single horse without partitions on cross ties- Is this safe if he has a paddy and will Ge be able to balance?
Thanks if you got this far!

Firstly, congratulations. Just keep repeating it and make progress slowly. Can't you find a breast bar that goes all the way across. As you say, perhaps it was the partition that he didn't like.

Well done!

Without a partition is fine (although will be a bit more of an unstable 'load') but you will still need a breast bar otherwise you might find him squashed up against the front of the trailer!

Good luck, hope you get there in the end.

you will need a breast bar for balance - they need to lean on something as you slow. (not suggesting Vettle speeds ;) )

I couldnt get my mare happy with a partition - now without one she is pulling me in the box!

more practice
more dinner in the box!
slowly progress, as its all easy and boring - you know hes happy.
then SMALL journeys - little trips away to hack home or something fun - then loading away from home to travel home (now there is the challenge!) then huzzah!!!!

Hope it goes well!

Thanks everyone! No idea what happened tonight-even yesterday hr galloped through the box in our attempt for a chilled walk through!?! He really is an odd one! Ive got an ifor 510- I'll see if they do a full length breast bar ! :)

Hi you can definetely get full size breast and breech bars for a 510. I travel mine in a 505 cross tied and he is much better. Make sure you have the breech bar as well in case he sits on the back.
