Ok, this might sound like either a) an over paranoid mum or b) just a weird post!

but

Beau (7mnth old border collie) woke me up at 6 this morning. This is already weird point number 1! Then I hear this tummy rumbling noise and I was like christ I must be hungry.... then realised it was coming from beau! He is in his crate on the far side of my room and my room is big!
It sounds like........ the guts are moving and sloshing and spitting almost (should be able to describe this better being a vet student but thats what it sounds like!) and although he doesn't seem in pain or anything every so often just goes UMPH and flops on the bed like ergh I have tummy ache.......

So... anyone else ever had this happen to their dog/puppy? and anyone have any ideas what it could be? I have decided to starve him for the day and maybe give him a little rice n chicken tonight..... think thats the right thing to do?

Help please, I am really worried about what it might be!

thank you! x

erm yes have come across this before, but my girl had exceptional problems and i wouldnt like to generalise it too another on this alone. Does he normally have a very noisy tummy? is his stomach disentended or bloated at all (usually) have you ever had problems keeping weight on him?

Nope never ever had a noisy tummy before (except just before he farts..... it like builds up... ergh!)
His tummy didnt seem particularly distended etc.....
in terms of weight he has always been a slim dog, even from a puppy... like healthy slim not ill slim..... and vets have never commented on his weight except that it is good...
can I ask what was wrong with yours? if you would rather PM about it that is fine!

thanks

as i said my girl (now passed away) had exceptional problems resulting froma birth defect. She died just before her first birthday. However it doesnt sound like your boy has the same probs from what you say so dont panic, no vet who saw our girl had ever seen a dog like it so would b very strange if ur lad had had the same issue! Our girl had symptoms similar originally miss diagnosed as an impaction, due to foriegn object though. This sounds like mayb whats going on with your boy ( the flopping down bit too) has he been sick or tried to be sick at all? has he been to the toilet? A foreign object by the way isnt normally an emergency so you should be fine to moniter him during the day and take him down the vets if he gets worse or mayb if the same take him to evening surgery later. Is he a bit of a chewer? is it likely he may have swallowed something he shouldnt, I think collies as a breed are fairly prone to doing so! Coming second to labs and retrievers of course!

Ahh im sorry to hear about your girl!

I don't know about the foreign object, he is not a chewer but he eats random cr*p off the floor..... so that is a possibility.
He has had wee's this morning but no number 2's! My housemate is puppysitting him this morning whilst I am at uni! and she knows I am starving him and that he has an upset tummy so she is keeping her eye on him!
If he is still naff tomorrow I will probably take him in to the vet.
The gut sounds were chilling out a little bit by the time I left for uni so.... might just let his guts chill for the day and try rice and chicken tonight..... do you think thats alright?

I hope he hasnt swallowed anything he shouldn't have my friends spaniel has just had emergency surgery after swallowing a pair of knickers!!!

He has not been sick though!

Lol i forgot about spaniels! That must have been an embarrassing trip to the vet! Yes starving him today is a good idea and chicken and rice later, would suggest giving him the meal before vet closing time though incase he brings back up, and you need to go down there! Hopefully it is just a bit of an upset tummy from something hes eaten off the floor then! In which case the chicken and rice for a few days should settle him back down. Keep us updated!

will do thank you very much for responding so much and helping!
the rumbles have stopped now, apparently they stopped around lunch time and he hasn;t done anything, but hasnt pooed either.... but done plenty of wee (outside, thank god!)

My Lurcher pup went through a stage of getting this a lot and still does occasionally. I'd hear it in the morning and its so loud and he wont eat when its happening. It soon dissapears though. I asked the vet and he asked if he was due for worming.

He is regularly wormed.
He is fine again now! Finally I saw him having a poo (which was an ok one) yesterday! was the first one I had seen from him in 2 days, but sure he had done some in the garden when I wasn't watching!
Not had it happen again, so I was wondering if maybe he was just hungry?! but didnt know if dogs get tummy grumbles for this?! I would have thought so as their digestive tract is similar to ours!

glad to hear hes ok now! his stomach was prob just working overtime digesting something he'd eaten off the floor and shouldnt have...thats puppies for you!
