He turned up this morning finally, 3 weeks late. Of course the poor horse had got very long in toe and has been forging like crazy but luckily shoes were still well on and she was fine.
He had to cut so much off that he's gone OTT and made her sore, even though he knows she's competing on Sunday.

Farrier is sacked and horse probs wont be competing this weekend

What a pain for you.

Farrier did that too with Chloe, made her sore for a day or two after. Hope she is okay soon!!

That wasnt J was it??!! God we cannot win with these farriers!
I really think it is utterly unforgiveable though when they are that late with the shoeing though.Dont think they realise how much it damages the back as well as the feet... Hope Moon comes right for this weekend, fingers crossed.

Ooh no - poor Moon.
Still it's only Wednesday, she could be a different horsie by Friday.
Our farrier is v good and lives close by, but we go to him at the forge rather than waiting for him to come, as by all accounts his timekeeping isn't great.

opefully he'll be fine by the weekend. That is disgraceful though, you'll just have to swap her Cocoa, and hope noone notices his equipment!

With rest she hopefully will be ok, have you put Keratex hoof hardener on her hooves and soles? I know it might not be a cure but it may make her slightly less sensitive.

Grr you must be so annoyed.

It was Je**, she's now having J** who is very, very reliable and luckily agreed to take her on as we've sold another horse!

Now, interesting you should mention that, but I keep blabbing on and on about mechanics to all the other owners at the yard how bad it is to let their horse's feet get too long (and they reeeeeeeeeeeeally let them get long) and will anyone listen??

They think I'm an excentric for getting PF shod every 40 days whether her shoes have fallen off or not!!

Hope Moon feels better soon.

Gosh, is it something that is in the Farriers weekly or something where they all get together and plot???
My farrier should have come last week but then rang to say Monday, so he shod her, and when I fetched her in, she too was lame. She is never lame, but yep, she walked down the field lame.

I phoned farrier and he said to see how she is in the morning, so I trotted her up and she gave about 3 slight nods, then ok. She then trotted off up the field sound. I rang him again to tell him and he said that he did cut it back quite a bit.

I rode her this morning on a quiet hack around the village and she was back to normal. phew!!!
So I bet in the morning, Moon will be fine again. I suppose it is like when we cut a nail too short and it is sore for a day or two before it gets used to it.

Oh ruddy hell.
Thats just not good enough is it!
I dont blame you for sacking them! 3wks is bad enough but to then and lame the poor bugger..
Hugs to Moon, hope she comes right for the weekend. Is this the event you forgot you'd entered

What is it with farriers at the moment!? My horses feet are so long and he's lost 2 shoes in the last week and is terribly foot sore, and he won't come out for another 3 weeks! I've phoned 5 farriers begging now and nobody will take anyone else on!

i must be soo lucky with my farrier hes really good with helga coz she can be really naughty at time and he puts up with her.
also i can just ring him when a shoe falls of and he there that night after work or the next morning before work . A star.
Plus he said to be a few week s go if i think she needs to go for 4 instad of 5 to just ring and he will do her.
i been thrown the same with the farrier before James (the farrier i have now) that i has when i got helga and al because of him were feet r wrecked and she has to have bar shoes on now. All because hre wouldnt shoe her when her shoe fell of if me dad got his hands on him he would kill him ( Not joking).

hope you find a farrier.
