As some of you know I brought Lottie back into work this spring, she was bored and fat.

I hack her out about twice a week. She rears (only small ones, too much gut to go up high) and spins round, spooks at grass (nature really IS out to get us) and shadows, and refuses to move occassionally.

She loves to canter along a nice grassy track, ears picked, taking hold of the bit and generally looking pleased with herslf, and since i started riding her again she's a new lease of life, but it's the getting to the grassy tracks thats the problem.

Yesterday an old friend of ours came to ride her. I put her on the lead rein expecting issues, (Katy doesn't really ride but knows enough to cling on and not annoy Lottie and has a very good natural seat!)

Lottie did not put one foot wrong, even when Beau uncharacteristically spooked (beau was very embarassed, not concentrating due to sedate nature of hack) right into her. Just mooched along with a smug, 'I'm looking after my friend' kind of look on her long nose.

I don't fear her antics and feel relaxed about riding her, I ride her with a relatively long rein, same as katy, and don't wind her up so why is she such a BAG with me? Does anyone else's horse look after other people better than them?

my gess would be that she can feel your a better ridder but no i dont have this problem its the outher way round im the only person rebel will let ride him with any one els he buggers off even dad cant hold him and he was a jockey

just read thet to her and she's in cold sweats, the idea of a MAN on her back, oh no, couldn't possibly!!!!!!

Sharon, annoying, but would you want a boring plod? I've just sold one of them, I know which is more fun!

I let my friend's very novice OH ride my horse in the school on Sunday and he didn't put a foot wrong, where as he's quite arguementative with me at times. I suspect its because he wasn't being asked to work properly so he thought it was worth behaving in case I got on again.
No way would I let him hack him though.

bit risky i agree but the old bag HATES the school with a violent passion and it was such a lovely day. It's relatively quiet where I live so what the hey!!!! Well done getting OH on board though, mine'll shovel anything but can't get him on one.

my horse looks after everyone but me!
my 5 year old broher sometimes has a little go on my 16.3 and he behaves perfectly, can't fault him. Doesn't spook at anything.
i get on and its a completely different story, spooking, rearing, spinning
i do have a feeling he knows i can ride better han my 5 ear old brother and he knows it

who'd have them hey?

Looks like you aren't the only ones with a horse like this

Ellie can turn into psycho sally with me and her owner but if you put someone on her that is nervous or a little unsure then butter wouldn't melt
