Bl**dy hunt!! (sorry, long rant)

[ QUOTE ]
....but there is no call for implying other forum members are either lying or don't know what they are talking about.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not assuming you are an anti, but i do think there is every reason to remind people, now and again, on this and other forums, that people are not always what they seem to be.
I have every confidence that a percentage of posts on this and any other public forum come from absolute la la land.
You should not always believe what you read.
I suppose that does imply that someone else is lying, but sadly, that is how it is.

I do love a good debate/argument. There are many good points for and against but when you consider that quite a few interesting posts on here are from 'antis' - it makes you wonder:-

a) 'anti' what? As foxes are not hunted any more then what are they against? I think it all comes down to the 'them and us' attitude. Those people who used to consider themselves as 'Anti-hunting' saw it to be the sport of snobs who gallop over other peoples land on their very expensive horses, wearing very expensive clothes and arrive at the Meet driving a top of the range 4x4. This is how us hunting people are unfortunately characterised (as per the original post) and nothing which we do or say will change the opinions of some. This is one of the reasons why they are 'anti' - it cannot now be because of their concern for the hunted animal, can it?

and b) Let us ALL not forget the name of this forum!!!!!

Incidentally - we held our Boxing Day Meet at the Kennels and were thrilled to see so many 'non-horsey/hunting' people there on foot. We made them all (over 500) welcome with drink and food supplied to everyone and many of them stayed on after hounds had moved off to have a look round the kennels. Most of these supporters don't come to any other Meets during the year but always make a point of attending on Boxing Day with the children and grand-children - it is something they have done for generations and, hopefully always will.

Regret this is the dangerous & damaging and quite unfair image that ALL horse sport has to some; and until we can turn this around all horse sport (except perhaps racing) is at risk, IMO.

Previously had a rant about this in the breeding section, so I won't repeat it here.

If that is your conception of hunting then it is quite clear to me you've probably never even attended a meet.

Shilas for once I'm pretty surprised, I usually agree with your posts in general but I certainly would never take something I read as gospel, if I believed everything I was told or read, well what a funny old world we would live in. I rely on hard facts and hard evidence, if that offends you then that is your problem and not mine.

As for negative PR...why? Secondly hunts do not need to fish for support, if hunting is in your blood then you'll be out there supporting every meet, fundraising, helping at the point to points and getting pissed at the hunt balls, if it is not in your blood, well why on earth would we want that support?

I apologise to Snowflake for pinching this but have a close look at the just how far the cars are parked, does it look like we need more support?

I don't believe in people saying 'I am unbiased' or 'I am neither pro nor anti', you'll always have an inclination one way or t'other.

I don't believe a word you are saying, utter rubbish. People have better things to do with their time then to go around and smash a few flower pots.. as for wanting to go though your garden, rubbish again. sorry but you are talking c***.

And name calling doesn't help.
What you have to realise, is that there is a slim possibility that the OP and the person saying s/he is talking cr*p are one and the same person , just trying to keep the story going, and set one camp in a bad light.
It may not be the case, but it may be. This is the internet. There are some well wierd people out there.

I think this phrase was dun4's suggested perception of 'anti's' rather than her own view...
Is anyone else apart from me now feeling very 'anti' towards dun4 on account of the width of that bl**dy photo? Next time, take a smaller and narrower 'corner of the field'

I really don't care which 'camp' looks bad or not - IMO I think some people who hunt are lovely and some are not just the same as people who do not support hunting. I didn't intend this to become a pro v anti debate (I probably should have titled it better) and whether people belive me or not is entirely up to them - I've read some posts on here before and wondered if the poster was in their right mind too

I appreciate the point, Severn_Mistletoe, regarding forum people not being what they seem...but we all know this...and generally there is no need to accuse each other of being fake.

I believe you. Good luck prosecuting the b'stards that trashed your garden! Some people who hunt are lovely and some are horrid, same as in all walks of life. I hope their behaviour leads to their own detriment and they end up with no land to cross. I'm afraid I have to say that IME - and I am in the heart of Cheshire - many of the regular hunting folk are the shiny new 4 by 4 crew, out of touch with most of society and some are a law unto themselves. And on the flip side, through work I know alot of the old money, aristocrat types who've hunted for generations and they would be horrified at hunts creating this sort of reputation for themselves.

Nobody is going to take the trouble to prosecute for a few pots and some dog poo.

If manners and goodwill dont go out the window maybe the OP will find herself the recipient of some gratis pots from the Master.

Nor can I. I cannot believe that with all the legalities the hunt have to deal with they would risk anything like this.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's a very emotive subject, and one where I don't believe a word unless it's corroborated by someone I know and trust.

[/ QUOTE ]

As a lawyer, my instinct is screaming at me that this is at least an exaggerated or coloured account. There is no corroboration. This is the internet. There are no hard and fast proven facts, not even where it is alleged to have occurred.

A lof of it doesnt make sense and seems to be included in order to be inflamatory. The mention of the broken pots and dumped dog dirt? Is this to suggest wanton vandalism out of spite on the part of the hunt? Why would the huntsman want to go into a garden, at this time when hunts are doing their best to avoid the slightest bad publicity? Only one hound jumped into your garden and then out again, having found nothing. Why would a huntsman waste time arguing about going into the garden (and by the account of this arguement it must have taken some time!) and ignoring the rest of his hounds???! Doesnt make any sense.

As for the creature jumping into the bin. Well, how unusual. Cats dont usually hide in bins, their instinct is to flee, not trap themselves. I am guessing the cat didnt plan on one of you putting the lid on, or was this a special cat?

But then, this is the internet of course...

I guess if it did happen, and the police sent a report to the DPP, (and it certainly sounds serious enough) then it will be reported in H&H and we will be able to ascertain its veracity. Is there any other way of ascertaining the veracity of all of this account OP?

My apologies to you all - yes, I forgot to resize the pic. in my excitement.

Yes, shilasdair - I was describing how the antis must see some of the hunting fraternity. In no way am I an anti but it occasionally is a good thing to see things from other peoples perspective. I am a keen supporter of our local Hunt, raising well over £3,000 towards Hunt Supporters Club funds every year organising our local Hunt show. I also help at the Point-to-Points, Open Days, get pi$$ed at the Cubhunters and walk hound puppies. But no matter how many supporters are out we do not want any negative incidents, no matter how trivial.

It is very good to see things from other people's perspectives...and to respect them. People campaigning for/against hunting is fine by me...but the value of PR cannot be ignored...I would have thought hunts would have learned that lesson, but if some of the posts on here are representative, obviously they haven't....

What a bloomin good job you managed to save the cat!

I'm not anti hunting but demanding to come onto your property and open your bin? I'd have told him to f***** off myself, does nothing for the image of hunting does it?

but surely, that's the value of reiterating, yes indeed if they are representative. And indeed true. And indeed not just put here for effect. Of course they may be genuine. Or not. But as the pp who had a legal background said, they can look very questionable.
We still don't even know which hunt is supposed to be involved. Firstly it was the Master. Now it's not even a member of the hunt staff, just some bloke. Was he in scarlet, this bloke? But the police are involved....
This is indeed the internet. Now I might be some paid Countryside Alliance spin doctor. I'm not, but you don't know that. That's kind of the point.
