Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but, manners cost nothing with time and patience! I helped a friend who is doing a horse (While the owners are away with the other one showing for a few days)this morning this horse barged out of his stable, was a pain in the bum to put his fly rug, mask and spray on......thought 'OK I know his buddy is away and he is stressed' but, even when his mate is here their manners will still be bad.....I cannot tolerate barging, towing and not tieing up quietly....and the amount of badly behaved horses at shows beggers belief so I'm left

I think manners should be taught ASAP to our horsey friends to make everyones life easier and more fun....

I couldnt agree more. It never ceases to amaze me how people let their animals walk all over them producing bad manners. All my horses accept me as their lead mare and are so easy to do. There is no excuse, apart maybe from ignorance.

I hate handling horses that don't do as you ask! Our new pony Crystal is a nightmare, but she is getting better slowly.

All of ours are bargy when stabled, but they aren't stabled often enough to learn there manners there, as they live out all year round.

with you on this one. I go out of my way to make sure my two have manners. It doesn't take long if you are consistent they soon pick up what is tolerated and what isnt. It really annoys me to see others letting theirs get away with barging and bolshy behaviour and then expect the YO to handle them. If its just you thats got to handle them its fine but we have a rule on our yard that no horse is left out on its own and there's one that I refuse to bring in as its just blatently dangerous. rant over

A horse must be taught manners.....when you are on the end of a rope with over half a ton of rippling muscle that wants to do what it wants it isn't any fun....infact it's dangerous & a recipe for disaster.

With a horse having no manners apart fom the potential danger it takes 3 times as long to get anything done & what should be enjoyable becomes a pain.

Couldn't agree more. When I first got Bud his manners weren't too bad, but needed improvement, he soon learnt!! Now my 7y/o daughter can do anything with him and he's as good as gold, much to the amazement of one of my friends.

i completely agree 1 livery at the yard im at makes snide comments if i 'discipline' Linx (usually a growl or tap on the shoulder when he's not standing still or being silly) but she lets her horse who is really bargy & bolshy be led in only la headcollar & drag her around the yard!

i think horses should have respect for me i tolerate being knocked over & pulled around
