Due to two horrible yard owners my horse could have possibly been homeless!
Only for an incredibly sweet person has my boy got somewhere to go and live!!!
I needed to desperatly reduce my livery bill as ongoing treatment for my horses back is costing a small fortune so I asked my current yard owner if I could go DIY, I live 2 miles away and she knows I'm meticulous and would do everything needed, however she stated that she only did full livery and couldn't accomodate me, so I began to look elsewhere.
I found another yard and began to ride her horse and she agreed she would take me as DIY and reduce that further in return for me helping her.
So I spoke to my yard owner and said I would be leaving and she pretty much called me a liar and did not believe my reason for leaving as being short of money this came as a huge insult as I thought we had been on excellent terms and I did consider her to be a friend.
I contacted yard owner number two and let her know I had given my notice to leave.
This morning yard owner number one apologised for her behaviour but said she was cross with YO no.2 as they were also friends and she thought she may have rung and spoken to her regarding me.
I then received a call from YO no.2 who said she didnt want to upset YO no.1 and therefore would no longer take me and in relation to her horse she would sell it and buy a lorry - thus my boy was homeless!
YO no.1 then said she couldn't help me but two new liveries would be arriving both on assisted livery!!
I'd be interested in peoples views as I know I have been the model livery, personally I couldn't sleep at night if I did this to someone!

Gosh, i think i've been incredibly lucky, I cannot believe people behave like this!

I am lucky because my mum owns our yard, she lives on site and I live in the same village, so if I can't make it up to help do the horses, it really isn't a problem. Although mum does cop it a bit if her mucking out isn't up to my standards and I do get cross over silly things but overall, it's a great situation to be in.

Your situation is not an enviable one, I cannot believe how petty some people are and it's all to do with money, nothing else. Sometimes you really want to slap people silly, for acting like they do, that YO needs to look at the bigger picture and live in the real world a bit, maybe then she wouldn't be so petty.

A shame for you but if both yards behave like that then perhaps you are best off out of them. I hope you find a really nice place soon.

Good luck

Thanks wizoz, I've stopped sobbing like an idiot now and I think you're right. I've managed to find a stop gap but it's 9 miles away but the girl who owns it 'appears' to be genuine and I'll be the only livery, I have to say my belief in human nature has been thoroughly tested and yet again I've learnt you soon know who your real friends are!!
I ridden and competed a number of horses for people over the years and every time without fail I've been s**t on - when I'll learn is just a mystery!!

Sadly you do find that in the horsey world, actually you probably find that no matter what you do in life, it's kind of like, look after number 1 cause nobody else is going to. That said, i'm sure you will find a great place one day. You may just have to toughen up a bit and not allow yourself to get walked on, trust me, it's taken me at least 20 years to toughen up as people used to s**t on me too, but I try very hard not let that happen now.

Chin up chicken, you'll get there in the end

Why on earth would YO1 have expected YO2 to ring her ? its none of her business where you go !
I think they sound like a pair of horrible cows and I hope you are much happier at your new yard.
Good luck

Shame about this story. Livery can be very difficult. If you need any advice on places that might be suitable PM me - I have looked around a lot of yards in this area over the years!!

I know how you felt. I had been at my place for all of 2 months when H got kicked out of his field, I was sleepless. I tried all other places, even a yard that he would not have fitted into and charged 120 per week !!! no where had room, and taking him back to RS was NOT an option, luckily YO had a change of heart cause she liked H and came up trumps, was totally in the air though for a month! funny cause the girl who got him kicked out of the field had been there for over a year !!!

Ah well looking on the bright side, 9 miles is nothing - I've had 2 horses come in today which have been kicked out of a yard 100 miles away!!!

The owners were told the yo was giving up having liveries, but have since found out that he isn't. So the horses have come to live with me for a couple of weeks while they scout round and find somewhere suitable for them to go.

Damn I must be good!!

hmm being a yard owner it is hard and if someone has given notice then and i had filled the box then you have to take that - if it was the other way round you wouldnt be impressed!

but also on the other hand i would never of said to yard owner no2 not to take you and done everything i could to make sure you could keep your diy place at the new yard !!

Can you not ask yard owner no1 to talk to no2 and get her to change her mind x x

I used to have two livery yards but got so fed up with livery clients b**ching at/about each other I closed both yards and became a livery myself - I tried being a livery for two years and my goodness there are some wierdo YO out there!!!!
My liveries clearly never knew how good they had it with me LOL!

I now have my own place and its bliss, the only downside is not having anyone to ride with....

At the end of the day, there is nowt so strange as folk!!

I have yet to find a good 1!!!Have had to move my boy again!!
