Black Arabian Twin Foals

Aww bless there little cotton socks, how very sweet they look. I do hope they do well. :)

gosh she must see the pound signs in her eyes! I hope the little one thrives, should be ok if they bottle feed. I am surprised it was a shock to her, you would think of going to all the effort of making them Black she would of had the mare regularly scanned and the fact that they were twins would of been picked up

My instructor helps where they were born and showed me a photo on tuesday. So special, the smaller one is just tiny though, you wouldn't have even thought it was a foal from the photo i saw, it looked like a pile of poo in the corner :( Bless it

I agree with this, what's happened to scanning or don't people bother anymore and take pot luck that they won't lose a foal or both or maybe the mum as well.

Confused! How could somebody who claims to run a stud (ie considers themselves to be a professional) allow a twin birth to progress?

The owner should consider herself lucky and hopefully be more rigorous about scanning next time

but there are occasions when Twins go unnoticed, have a look at the following link. I have also heard of this happening with another horse, although in the other cas ei am led to believe that one or both of the foals died?

According to her website the stallion runs with the mares. How anybody could hope to achieve an accurate scan without knowing to the day when the mare was covered is a bit of a mystery and could lead to false results, in my view.

I think it's a bit weird that twins can go un noticed. Where I keep my horses have had two mares scanned and both carrying twins. Each mare had one pinched so the others can carry on ok hopefully. I don't know a great deal on breeding but think everybody should have the mares scanned

Well you know i said my instructor worked there, today, she took me to go and meet them! Little Notte, the smaller one has her front legs in splints as they hadn't formed properly as they were both 2/3 weeks premature, but she was as happy as anything regardless. Piccies soon, but her and her sister Nera are gorgeous, as is mum Zara (:
