Has anyone tried this for their horses?

What did you use it for and did you see any results?

I'm thinking of trying it but just wondered what other peoples experiences were...

I personally feel that the Red Box is a far superior technique. I've spent years studying the effects and am happy to discuss pricing with you if you like?

Do you mean you are going to send some hair off and some money and someone will put it into a magic balck box and your horse will get better - that black box ?

Sorry - what is the red box?

Well rather than using just hair samples, I request a urine sample is taken, in addition, at different time points throughout a lunar calendar. I then look at the urine composition dependant on the emotional state of the horse at these times and can tie this in with the longer term history that I obtain from the hair sample.

That is brilliant.

Thanks very helpful!

Surely that really depends on the colour of the horse.... (that's what I've been led to believe anyway)

This was actually a serious question - I'm not into hocus pocus/weird remedies but am at my wits end.

In all seriousness (and I'm sorry for taking the Micky!) what have the vets done so far and what have they ruled out?

Might get more ideas making a post about headshaking

The black box jobbie is one of those things that may have a placebo effect on people but I've never heard of any reports of it actually working on animals. :(

If you'd like to send me your money, however, I would happily place it in a cardboard box and send your poor horsie get well soon vibes? ;)

*clears throat and prepares to duck* I do actually know someone who used the black box for their horse when all else had failed - one way or another the horse did improve ;) She's not into mumbo jumbo stuff and is a scientist, so I was surprised at her choice, but hey ho. I also have another friend currently using it for herself - tbc whether it is effective for her!

OP, if you have the money and want to try it, I think you will have to decide for yourself because with every alternative therapy, there will be people who think it works and people who don't! Personally it wouldn't be for me :)

putting a horse 'on the box' can work for many things, and i am very cynical about funny things.... used to work with a horse that was on the box and he was fine, as soon as he came off the box he wasnt! (competing at reasonable level intermediate eventing, undiaganosed lameness (yes many vets saw him prior to being on the box) can only be worth a try! good luck and let us know

is it really as it sounds? like you just put your horse's hair (and maybe urine) in a box and then the people who do it send you the box back and you just keep it on your mantelpiece?

I have heard of it working on horses before, one of mine was on it a few years ago and I don't recall it really helping. Mine is now on it as a last ditch attempt, and considering the money that has been thrown at the vets, this is small fry and it certainly can't help.
'Mrs Dower' was the original lady, but I think she has passed now.

Ha! I can't believe people actually believe in this :)
There is no proof that it works, some people just think it is a placebo effect on the owners.

*waiting to get shot down by the believers*

Thank you! It's not something I'd normally even look into but like I say, I really don't know what else to try and having thrown money away on anthistimines/steroids/nasal sprays/herbal supplements/magnesium calmers/eye drops and the like I figured it would be worth a try :) My instructor thinks it's worth a go and he is definitely anti mumbo jumbo :D
