Does anybody else find their dark coloured horses gets a sort of white powder on their coats? She's rugs and lives out and comes in everyday to be brushed etc but her coat always has a layer of white powder like stuff, is it just grease build up? Anything I can do to stop it? She's on a diet of fast fibre, linseed, hoof builder, equimins advance complete and extra mag. Any ideas?

It's the grease!

After clipping, I always 'hot cloth' the horse and this brings up a lot of the grease. (old tea towel in water as hot as I can bear, and give the horse a really good wipe-down)

Lot's of grooming with the body brushes will be the thing to help keep this grease build-up at bay!

It is natural for horses to have a build up of greece to keep them warm in winter. It is always worst on mine when it has been wet and their coats dry out. As mine are not rugged I only do limited brushing in winter, but the white powder is usually easily removed with a wipe over with a slightly damp cloth or sponge.

Thanks guys I thought it was just grease but happy now others think the same. Yes a hot clothing does help and brings her shine back. It's a ****** I hate seeing it, my dun although has it as when I brush him I see it flick off but doesn't look as bad as my black mare.
