We had a black country saddle made to fit out narrow, high withered tb mare. however we were told last year that it was too narrow for her and fitted really bady we now have a lovely lovett and ricketts saddle.
However we CANNOT sell the black country saddle. it is an event one and in great condition. 17.5".
should we perserve or should we just get it widdened to fit my youngster next year as he only has a wintec atm. is it actually possible to widden saddles? how much would it cost?

Thanks in advance!

you can widen trees but up to half a width but many saddlers wont do it and the ones who do say that its at the risk of the owner as tree may get damaged...

have you talked to BC? could they cahnge the tree for you? not sure how possible it is but worth asking...?

i gave my v narrow barnsby event to a large 2nd hand saddlers and they managed to sell it for me - took about a year but i got what i wanted for it - saddler admitted that now people knew more about horses and muscles wastage there are v few narrow fitting saddles as they have developed correct "wider" muscles - but says there are still horses who need narrow from conformation not muscle wastage and he eventaully found one to sell it too :)

I have a Black Country Saddle which may not fit mine anymore as he has developed so much - it's a medium.

As I bought second hand I will probably part exchange for a jumping saddle but the saddler said one option is to have the tree adjusted at the manufacturers on a one off basis so it may be worth having a chat with Black Country.

Thanks, he has just been turned away atm and is x-wide saddle but he has no withers so that should change with growth. worth contacting them maybe next year and if its not worth it trying to send it to a saddler to try and sell again.
I did give it to a small saddler for a few months but i dont think she does that much fitting so no chance really!
