Hi All,

I wondered has anyone ordered a made to measure Black Country saddle? How long did you have to wait for it to arrive with your saddler?

:)

It will vary across the year depending on how busy they are and lockdown may have affected them.Yur fitter should be able to get a decent estimate. It can vary across Walsall from 2 weeks to over 12.

4 weeks. My saddler checked the current (at that point in time) lead time before I ordered. They told her 4-6 weeks and it arrived bang on 4.

Yes me, but a long time ago.
However, word of caution, 2 different friends have had issues fairly recently with the M to M not being particularly made to measure from BC, one in fact after waiting and waiting was given a completely unsuitable saddle for her lightly built horse, it had been made to measure yes, but not for that horse.....had the devil's own game getting her own saddle which basically they hadn't made at all and they had fobbed her off with something already made after she'd waited 6-8 weeks (i think, from memory)
When in finally came it didn't fit and they weren't interested in adjusting it so she asked for her money back & it took months despite her going to Walsall more than once in person. Fortunately she had paid by credit card.
To clarify - she ordered direct at a horse show with the owners themselves. My own saddle came via a BC fitter in 4 weeks and was fine. Admittedly about 10 years ago though!

I've had 2 in the last year. 1st one took about 10 weeks; second one took 4. The issue with the first one was saddler delays not the company.

They aren't particularly about who their fitters are which would put me off - the two local to me are poor/unqualified.

My experience with BC was very poor. One of the directors came out and fitted and sold me an ex demo jump saddle. The saddle would never have fitted, it was too long for the horse, and it was also shoddily made with a wonky gullet.

Still not sure if he knew and didn’t care, or if he just didn’t know. Either way, not great, and BC were subsequently very dismissive of the issues. Further enquires revealed that there are a number of dissatisfied BC customers locally, especially with M2M.

so i had completely the opposite experience-they bought 2 saddles for me to try at short notice, and also checked the fit of a third second hand one i had sourced myself and left me the suitable brand new one to trial for two weeks!

they refused payment for the trial when i returned it and subsequently one of their fitters re flocked the older second hand saddle (which was also suitable just an older design) and we agreed once the pony finishes maturing we will get him a M2M based on the one i trialled.

they have a very good rep for my sort of pony (wide, flat, roly poly native) but i also ride a clients tall, slim 17hh in a totally different style of BC and he goes nicely in that and i find it comfy.
