Black droppings?

Hi, I've recently noticed that my new horses dropping have become black and very 'heavy'. Wondering if this could indicate any problems/ is cause for concern. thanks

he's out in the day on poor grazing and has adlib hay. he's overweight and an exetremely good-doer on a constant diet so was thinking of adding a balancer but not sure what to go for

Hi what quality hay is it do you know, if its high in protein he may not need so much being over weight, I take it he is a cob type !
