I need to upgrade my current saddle as it does nothing for my position. I've been trying a friend's which both horsey and I like. The problem is that the saddle is brown (a mid brown, not a dark havanna brown) and I'm not sure it suits my mainly black piebald beast.

So the burning question of the day is- Do/ can black horses wear brown tack?

As I only stock brown in most models I often fit brown to black horses, but it is a very dark neutral brown. I think it depends - in the right shade it looks subtle and makes the horse look blacker.

Yep...I love the look of brown tack on a black horse. I had a brown saddle on my boy with a black numnah and it looked very smart :)

If your showing then I'd ideally it should be brown but if black looks better then use which compliments your horse, brown looks better on bays and chestnuts but have found that black looks nicer on greys but thats just personal preference, I can imagine a very dark brown would look nice on black, so for a piebald I think either would look nice.....sorry not much help there lol

Always brown. Fell pony looks better in it cos it makes her look blacker. Also as she wears a pelham for showing it stops her looking like the only thing she has on her face is a big lump of metal as you can see some straps ect! :)

I know this isn't really in the spirit of the post but isn't it more important to get a saddler out to check the fit?

Assuming you'll be paying friend for the saddle anyway then you might as well pay saddler for one that really fits (if the try-out one turns out not to/you decide against the colour). Then you can have whatever colour you like anyway :-)
