Does anyone else have a black horse with a brown patch where their saddle and girth goes? I know that the sun bleaches their coat, is it the heat from the saddle that is doing this?
The bleaching from the sun is because of UV rays not the heat so I doubt it. I've not heard of this before. My old black boy went a bit ginger in his later years as he help onto his coat a bit and the ends got bleached.
Yes! This has happened to my black horse AND my dark bay horse. I think it must be something to do with the heat from saddle girth in this area as my bay horse has some nerve damage on his bum and this area sweats with exercise/in warm weather and is the same colour as his saddle patch! Both horses are always washed down well after exercise so it's the only thing I can think of!
