My new horse will be going barefoot at some point in the near future, but having missed out on soo much riding for soo long I want to enjoy him over the summer before I transition him. Hes going on pro hoof and will be being treated as a barefoot horse. He has an amazing farrier who does remedial work etc and his feet look a good shape etc. However there is an awful lot of cracking around the nail holes and crumbly feet from there down. He was shod on Thursday, I wasnt there but I noticed when I was sweeping up that the trimmings from his hooves had a very clear black line in the middle. Am I right in thinking that this is an infection? Its been a long while since I've had a shod horse!
