Black mountains

A bit.
Used to live between two of them until 6 months ago. Very wet, the translation of the village I lived in was literally Bog Valley, never a truer word spoken. There are quite a few people on here from Wales, whereabouts are you from?

Being nosey here, are you asking because you do ride on them or because you want to know what they are like? Beautiful, bleak, windy, cold, wet, boggy and food for the soul, nothing better on a sunny day than just sitting quietly on a horse on the top looking for miles over the valleys, total silence, with just the sheep, a few ponies, the Larks and the Kites for company.

Its a bit blustery today tho Enfys (hi hun x)

I ride often on part of the Black Mountains. You do need to know where you are going. I can remember getting lost in the fog once, it can come down in minutes!

Hi Yourself,

Windy here too.

I rode my poor old mare straight into one of the bogs on your side once, it didn't give us any warning, one minute it looked like normal turf, the next we were up to the belly in black goo

ripped off two shoes climbing out of that, Lee was pleased

. Usually there is at least some moss or bog grass around isn't there?
I was OK on my side even if the fog did come down, but yours.....forget it, I get lost once I'm out of sight of Scotch Pines on a clear day.

Pmsl. You found 'the Red Bog', the only one by me, to be avoided at all costs unless you are MFH leading hounds and joint meet over to the planting! Tis always good to keep the pub in sight tho. We are going up tomorrow for our last meal and drink before the smoking ban comes in on 2nd April!

Oooops, sorry to have stolen the thread

Mountains are great but the roads are awful getting to them....

Hi enfy! are you missing the boggy valley??

Guess what I am moving!! Can you find me a place in canada???

Aww Cool!

Rhiwddu Farm?

I like the area and the mountains
but my house is wey to big for us
I need a ickle house this is a family house really
Lands ok stables are great, made loads of new friends
and moving from england to wales was really easy

going to do a new build I think with loads of land so I can get more welshies!!!

It wan't a farm as such, more a small holding, though can't remember what it was called (not Rhiwddu). My mum had a number of horsey friends in the area, where is your place?

I learnt to ride around Crighowyl and Llangattock (Golden Castle Riding Centre) but haven't been there since I went to uni 7 years ago. It is gorgeous and I hope to move to that area eventually, when I'm a bit richer! I then moved to Swansea and rode across the Gower, which is equally beautiful but in a different way! I now ride around Cardiff and Caerphilly, which is mostly bridlepaths in woods, which has its own charm but not quite as spectacular!

i used to be trek leader, used to go riding on the mountains everyday. i moved to the area from manchester it was the best fing i ever done. The pub rides we're the best!

Hi Denwyn! Enfys told me about you. I live three fields away from the Scotch Pines - if you have ever hunted with Llandeilo Farmers, you would have come through my land

Hi Denwyn, I missed out all the juicy bits!

Are you moving from the area, or just the house?
Llwyncwn (do you know, you are unpronouncable to half the people on here H?) you WALK to the pub through the fields?! Interesting return journey after a good night

Hmmmmm Enfys, interesting one. Do you think I should have a change of name, it may stop folk spitting when trying to pronounce it

Perhaps Cwmlloughor, or Gwasanaethau
