as title, haas anyone had issue with the black dye running when horse is wet/sweaty?

need a smaller half pad for new saddle for home and want a black one but dont want dye running/staining issues!

Yes! I have a black Bartyl I think it is and I now have a purple pony where it has stained his white bits. I do use it when hunting all day though so you might be ok with just general work.

Also this Is a full fur lined numnah not half pads I used to use black half pads all the time with a numnah underneath and never had an issue.

I have a LeMieux black sheepskin numnahs that Mally wears out hunting, so she gets extremely sweaty in it, haven't had any problems with the dye running although I'm not sure I would notice as it doesn't come into contact with anything white!

We also use a LeMieux Black Half lined saddle cloth daily with the sheepskin in contact with the horse, can't say I have noticed it run but then she is bay so hard to tell!

I've got a black Le Mieux pad, had it for a year, horse gets quite sweaty & not had any problems, much prefer it to the white one I had before.

This is why I only recommend Mattes - lots of people love other brands (and they are cheaper) but none are as high quality as Mattes, and I never hear of problems like dye running, or the fleece shedding etc, which you do occasionally hear from even the premium brands.

I had a black lemieux lambswool numnah. Took grey pony hunting in it and took 3 weeks to get rid of the pink stain it caused. I'll only use white saddlecloths with him now if he is likely to sweat up.

I've got Nuumed, both the half lined and a half pad and have not had issues with either of them. The half pad has got to be about 8 years old now and still looks like new, the half lined cloth is newer but also going strong. Fantastic items.

Surely the good makes just use black sheepskin for it? we had two hebridean sheep sent away at the end of summer and had their skins back. Salted them and sent them away for tanning.

We now have two lovely black sheep skins - OH originally said I could make one into a saddle pad but he likes them too much now and is refusing!
