Black skin tag

Have just discovered a black skin tag on my best boy (age 12), he’s had a few skin tags with age but this one is black, textured like his nose (it’s on the top of his snout, I thought it was an eye bogie so spent a while trying to remove it 🤦‍♀️)

Sensible me says monitor it for a week.
Other me (who loves the dog and doesn’t think about vets bills) says book him into the vets tomorrow.

Google says unless in mouth or on toes it’s unlikely to be a melanoma, unlikely, but not impossible.

Waiting a week is sensible though? That way I’ll have more information for the vet?

Husband knows how much I love the dog so would just tell me to do what I think is right 😑

If it is the type of smallish skin tag I think you mean, in my amateur opinion I think it most likely will turn out to be a benign growth of some sort. However, if it was some time since he last had a general vet check, perhaps you could kill two birds with one stone, and book an appointment for that, and since you're there anyway, have the vet look at the skin tag.

Whether you chose to wait, or book a vet visit, fingers crossed 🤞 for that it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

He was at the vets in autumn for a dental so not really due a health check but I’ve booked him in to get it looked at this week, it’s not like the other skin tags he’s had/got so I’d rather play it safe.

My Collie had something that sounds really similar. I thought she had dirt on her nose at first and then it kind of developed as a line along the top, where nose skin became normal.
The vet wasn’t sure, he said it was another of my weird visits 😂
She had it a good while and it caused no bother to her, she was 16 so I didn’t want tests or whatever.
She had a course of steroids for an unrelated issue and the nose returned to normal.
I wish I had photos.
