Hi, I can remember reading that sunflower seeds are good for feet and coats. How uch do I feed and will they send my horse up the wall?

Thank you!

Feed roughly 2 mugs a day and no they don't send horses loopy! In fact the stuff I read up on them, they were supposed to act as a calmer as much as everything else as they are high in magnesium which is the main ingredient of a lot of calmers

My two get a big mug a day and have not noticed any fizzy effect, but they are both very laid back types.

Have really noticed a big improvement in their feet - both are barefoot and had no problems with cracking this year.

Anyone know if the stripey ones are as beneficial? We ordered black oil sunflower seeds but feed store got in the stripey ones - horses seem to like them and after a couple of months - it may be coincidence - farrier commented that Marco's feet were looking better.

Where do you get them from??

Most agricultural feed merchants can get them in - they're often stocked in the bird feed section though

Seeing as the largest component is fats, no, they wont make your horse fizzy.
It's only really starch that may have a noticeable affect on temperament
