Been shopping and bought some of the above today!!!

Had to pay far more than all you lot on here... got stung £15 for 20kg..... does that sound right??

Anyway, horsey next to mine is 28 and looking a bit light at the moment, would he be okay to try them or should his owner get the 'hearts' (ready hulled for those as uninformed as i was) so they are easier to digest as his teeth are a bit on the aging side as well??

I am going to take some before and after fotos of each of them and post them back on here later...... how long do you think i should leave between pics (Tia???)

Wish us luck.

I personally wouldn't shell the seeds as the shells offer a lot of fibre.

If you take a piccy now of horsey and then again in a month I would think you would see a difference.

I pay $20 for my seeds, they are more expensive over here, relatively speaking.

You could soak the seeds if they are too hard for him to manage. Think PF (or someone) does that as she can only get the stripy ones, which are eveh harder.

ive just bought some today as well!think i got ripped off as i payed 7.95 for a 12.5kg bag, but i thought it was for a 20kg bag!(they were must cheaper in the next shop i went into!)Im going to post some pics as well-merlinsquest we can compare how well they work for one another!keep us posted!x
ps how many cupfuls are you giving?Ive started today with just a small amount to get him used to it...

I gave a mug full in a feed bowl today to see if he 'liked' them rather than just not noticing they were there!!! He ate most of them, but dont rate his chances of picking them out of a feed!!!

Might soak for other horse (if she wants to feed them) as his teeth are a bit suspect!! At 28 they would be i suppose!!

Will take pics tomorrow and again in a month... dont really want mine to be hugely fatter (other horse will hopefully show huge difference) but would love an even shinier coat as he is black!!!

Price wise, there was so much difference from best: £11.21 for 20kg up to £20 for 26kg. Ended up doing a deal and actually paid £12.50 today (to save driving all the way to fosburys in worpleston who were the cheapest) but in future would be £15 !!! Me thinks I will be shopping elswhere.

I think that I will give 1 cup a day for a few days and then up to 2 small cups???? I am only going on what i have read on the forum so if that wrong then please someone tell me before he explodes!!!

Merlin is 15.1hh 8 yrs old and an Irish Sports Horse x Welsh D and is actually a good weight at the moment.... could fill out more but no way skinny.

Other horse is 28 yr TB who is quite underweight.

Tis me who soaks them sometimes. Only when I am soaking oats though and only because I am lazy as I premix all of my feeds here. Not soaking at the moment though as too cold.

I'm not sure you could really overdose on them to be honest, certainly not at the levels we are all feeding them (although they are high in protein so you wouldn't want to give a bucketful) - I would think that the vitamins and trace elements in them can only be absorbed to the amount the body can absorb....after that you would just be feeding for the sake of it.

Sorry Tia for mistaking you for the 'pink one'.

Have you tried Rokers? Can't remeber what I paid there last time as filled lorry with shavings and other feed as did a mass yard order.

Thanks to Tia I started mine on them nearly a week ago. I offered them a handful as a treat and even the fussiest mare loved them

They are now on a mug full a day. Waiting to see results

Hiya, can you tell me what the benefits of feeding Black Oil Sunflower Seeds? Don't know much about them!

Thanks!

Mine get a small mug twice a day - 16.3 clydie and 14.3 gypsy cob - one of Tia's best ever tips for me.

Mine look great and if you are lucky you get seedlings sometimes growing in the muckheap or corner of the stable mats

Merlinsquest and piebald sparkle- you mention rokers and frosburys which are my local feed barns..how much are their seeds? I got a 2kg bag of them today from rokers, in the little bird pic + mix section! just to see if fussy will actually eat them. Thanks !

Brough mine from Rokers, but can't remember how much the sack was, as it has lasted ages!!!

Small tip, sacks are with the bird feed, if you can't find them and have to ask don't say its for your horse, coz they look at you like your a nutter
