black tack on a dun?

Thoughts, personally . feel brown tack is much smarter however have seen a fab k2 albion saddle second hand at a great price and my boy needs his own set of tack as opposed to sharing my mares. Only problem is saddle is black! Do you think it would be better to hold out for a brown one? He will mainly be doing show jumping and working hunter with a spot of local showing classes next year.

He's very smart and I'm sure either black or brown would look fine on him. Personally I'm not a black tack lover for the show ring though. So long as he's correctly turned out and your garb compliments his, you'll be fine either way.
 
My dun has black tack and I think brown would look very odd on him actually. I think the black makes my horse's colour stand out more.
 
Ive shown my black sabino gelding in black tack and Ive still been placed and won things :) he looked ridiculous in brown tack as my mare was bay and I popped her tack on him once and he looked stupid :D
 
You can get away with anything when you have a dun :wink3: My late gelding had black tack for the first half of his time with me, then changed to havana (purely because the only saddle that fitted him was havana - AND it was an Albion K2!)
Technically havana is correct for showing, but I have seen plenty of black tack at local level. I actually preferred the black on him as it made his black points really stand out, so I'd personally go for it! The saddles are gorgeous and so comfortable, I loved mine to bits. x
 
Due to his height am only going to be able show him locally :( so am coming around to the black tack. My mare has the k2 and I just love it!

Hello everyone, I'm new here, but I hope I could help. I used to ride a loan gelding, which was dun, and he looked much better in black! Why brown (which is, of course, smart) is not as good as we may think? First of all, it's really hard to find reins, bridle, saddle, riding boots and stuff in exactly the same colour. They usually differ and sometimes it doesn't look fine. Second thing is: when we use leather equipment, we will probably care about it using different oils and creams, and brown things can sometimes get darker. My friends leather field boots look like marble because the colour has changed in some places less than in others, but it doesn't happen if you use proper creams. It's easier with black - darkening does not affect black tack :) on the other hand, I've heard about brown leather fading because of the sun. I think black tack suits more horses, is easier to sell, looks less tired after years of usage... but looking at a nice horse with properly chosen brown tack... what a pleasure! :)

What about a red dun? No black points there. :p

I personally like black tack, so I'd put all horses that aren't going showing, including real duns (of all types) and buckskins in black tack.
 
Fit is more important than colour. A bright bay that we bred has all brown tack except for his jumping saddle which is black. It was a good price, but also fits him beautifully which always has to be the main consideration. If you've found a K2 that fits at a good price then buy it quickly - even if it's pink !!
