I have just returned from a weekend in Blackpool and i have to say i was saddened and more than a little upset watching the horse drawn taxis there. Those poor horses work so hard up and down that front. One in particular upset me a lot, i had seen him about 4 in the afternoon pulling one of those hideous pumpkin things from gypsy weddings. We past the same cob and cart at 10 at night when we were driving through the illuminations. He looked absolutley knackered trotting wth his head down by his knees. Does anyone know if these horses have a specific time they are allowed to work per day. I feel like complaining but doubt it will do any good.

Must admit I always feel a bit sorry for the Blackpool cab horses but I never know whether it's just me being a bit fluffy because I'm so used to seeing my pampered horse... I suppose you could speak to the Council to see what the regulations are?

There are regulations in place to restrict the amount of time a cab horse works, I believe it is seven hours a day. Most landau's will have a change of horses over the day and I suspect many of the horses will be fitter than many paddock potatoes. :)
