Have been using a barefoot trimmer (well regarded locally) for my two horses for about 9 months, my horse always has been barefoot, older pony having terrible problems keeping shoes on,feet in pieces. To cut a long story short our elderly pony was struggling and took her for X-rays.
X-rays showed her pedal bone had rotated, and although not lame was obviously uncomfortable.
Vet recommended heart bar shoes and corrective trimming. Both she and blacksmith believe this has happened because she has been trimmed incorrectly. Heel is too high and toe too long.
Obviously she is now under blacksmith again, question is do I continue with barefoot lady trimming my other horse, who has great feet and has no problems, or move him to the blacksmith to continue trimming?
