Blacksmiths GRRRRRRR How long would you wait

My blacksmith cancelled last Wed, my boy only has a trim and he wanted to time in with others. Thats fair enough, he promised to rearrange within a couple of days (we're at 8 weeks here - he needs doing), i've left 2 messages now and still no reply. How long would you wait before ringing another blacksmith?? - knowing how fickle they are

I have had much the same problems with farriers here. My thoughts are - stuff the ones who can't be bothered to contact clients who have only one horse or a few and leave them for months on end until they have nothing on then call us the same day expecting to arrive in half an hour. We work too but they are so up themselves and think we're there at their beck and call. There are great ones out there and you will find one I am sure that turns up on time books 6-8 weeks ahead and does a great job. Where abouts are you. We have a fab farrier now after endless no shows from others and days off work waiting and waiting. Can give you his number if you are nearby

I used to wait for hours for mine to turn up, have days off work etc, 9 times out of 10 he just wouldn't turn up, there woul dbe no answer on his phone, drove me mad. One time his excuss was that he fell asleep!?!! (all day?!) I putup withthis for around 3 years, as I like the way he'd the horses feet. In the end I decided that enough was enough and changed to a new farrier that did the horses at the yard I worked at, He's NEVER late, cheaper, better with the nervous horses and just allot nicer in general! If you not happy, change, Iwish I'd done it years ago!
 
He's been my blacksmith for about 18months and has always turned up nd done a really good job. Problem is my old boy has just gone from a full set to a trim, and i'm keeping shoes off my baby for as long as possible - therefore he doesn't earn enough. Well tough, i'm not forking out for shoes for the sake of it, most of the yard use him so he can easily time it in. I cannot be doing with people who don't return calls, its so rude. I've got my old boy to 29 years old without a days lameness - i'm not starting now!!! GRRRRRRR

When I had this problem I sent him a text saying if you are not going to come out then at least have the decency to let me know so I can find another farrier. He then range me 17 times and left a load of messages (I was in the gym) and now he comes out at once as soon as I call him.
 
Waited an hour yesterday. Refrained from ringing him as knew he would eventually get there and he is the big guy himself so worth it. Did get wet very wet though, rain oh joy. Wouldn't wait more than an hour for them though.
 
I am still waiting for my farrier to arrive. He was meant to be here on Friday! Have been phoning constantly, but just going straight through to voicemail.
 
My farrier is lovely but hugely unreliable, he is always at least two hours late, sometimes turns up on the wrong day, and has just done them two hours early, ok if you don't work but I do resent having to take a days holiday because it is so hard to know when he will arrive. It is not always possible to change farrier because in my area they are all so heavily subscribed, he readily admits he has too many customers. Not sure what the answer is really.
 
My farrier is lovelly, I have his mobile and his Landline (for emergency) always arrives ontime and calls the day before just to confirm the time again. Cant say fairer than that!
 
My farrier is always on time, and I have never had any problems, He always answeres his mobile or gets back to you on the same day, he can never do enough to help you!
I know my farrier is quite rare though, not all of them are as reliable or easy to get hold of!
 
My farrier was horrendous and always late/forgetful etc. Finally got to a point during 6th form where my blood was boiling as I had missed afternoon classes to get pony shod and he was 2 hours late! Told him off. Next time he came I passed him a pocket diary with a little pen attached and told him to use it. Both ended up laughing so hard we were almost crying and from then on he would wave the diary at me each time he visited lol.
 
Oh dear, I'm not sure. Mine is astronomically bad-tempered and abrasive; grunts, scowls, won't engage in any sort of chat, tells me when my next appointment is rather than asking me what date/time I'd like, but he's always either punctual or early, he has never cancelled, he even once turned up when he was so ill I thought he was going to throw up all over Brandy's hooves, and his work is top-notch. (He's also a very good price, but I suspect that's due to his bedside manner losing him customers all over the place - how we've made six years with him I don't know.) Anyway, if he was late, I'd be astounded, and if he didn't turn up I'd probably call just to make sure that he was actually still alive.
 
Ours has taken to ringing up to say he will be late, last time he rang to say that because he thought he was due at 12 O'clock, but actually he was due at one and turned up at one!

He was grumpy with the one that had to be sedated for trimming, but persevered with her when others would have refused to come out. We have known him since he was an apprentice and he has been our farrier since he qualified.
