my daughters jack russell had operation for bladder stones yesterday.this is the second time hes been operated on with them. is there a diet that can help prevent these happening.any advice please.

Poor little dog hope he is feeling more comfortable, Im surprised the vet hasnt suggested something, off the top of my head I think Hill Science Diet CD or Dc. Speak to the vet about it but dont buy from them as you can buy it cheaper on line.

There is definately special food for cats (expensive) to prevent this also tablets available from the vet. A friend's cat had to be operated on several times at nearly £200 each time, so the tablets were the answer for prevention.

If the bladder stones are struvite, they can be treated with a proprietary diet (Hills, I believe) developed specifically for such stones. I had a Golden Retriever dog with this problem. He was given an ultrasound, evaluated, put on the Hills diet (sorry, it's been so many years ago, I can't remember the name, but it was in a tin). It took 6 months. He was rescanned and the results were remarkable. As a bonus, his coat never looked better! He was a show champion and the added coat in a hot climate (Hawaii) was wonderful.
