Good grief! They look huge 🥺
The top two stones are part of the new collection..the stones are 2.5cm..and were taken out yesterday, THere were many small stones too. This was the second op for this condition..after five months exclusively fed on struvite prevention food..wet and dry vet life struvite.Huge fail, obviously.
The stones in side the petri dish were taken out in her first op.
There were more stones but many were sent to Milan labs to be analysed for composition.
Now were home cooking , anti struvite menu, with daily pH urine checks(pH strips ) increase fluids,
This is my mini schnauzer,ex breeder,3c sections..22 puppies...I took her in at 5 with infrequent urination habits.I phone the breeder with my concerns and he replied "she's a camel".
She's a tough little dog,on her feet hours after the op and we will fight with her.
I am abandoning kibble for her.My other dog is a on a mixed diet..kibble,meats,veg etc and at 11 has never had issues like this.

I know bladder stones can get big, but to come from the bladder of a mini Schnauzer, they look enormous, especially considering that there was more than one. Poor both her, and you that they've come back so quickly. Did the first stones composition show that they were struvites? Or was it just presumed the first time because if a mini Schnauzer bitch gets bladder stones they're most likely Struvites?

Either way, I'm not sure that the new bladder stones has to be a sign of that the anti struvite food failed, sometimes I think bodies can just be determined to act stupid even though you're trying to prevent it. That said, I was going to suggest perhaps switching to another anti struvite food to see if you had better luck with that, but I see that you've already decided to switch to a home cooked version, so fingers crossed it helps.

In both cases the stones were sent to Milan labs to be analysed..struvites confirmed in first case..waiting for results on second..we used a different brand of anti struvite food for the five months post op last time to no effect.
The mini schnauzer is on the list of breeds predisposed to form stones..so I agree with what you wrote finny.
This time around we are also using a med to bring her urine pH back to 6...6.5.
I will update how she goes after my hip op this week...she's doing g really well so far, small scar healing well, peeing and pooing fine and doing small walks. Onwards and upwards.

I suspect that it might be a bit too optimistic to say that I hope you heal, and recover exactly as quickly from your hip surgery as your dog did from her bladder surgery, so instead I'll say that I hope you come as close to healing + recovering as quickly as she would if she'd had a hip operation as possible.

Not sure if this is any help Bella, but one of our horses kept getting dreadful renal colic and the vets were at a loss as to what I could do. I decided to research the problem in a general way, and introducing apple cider vinegar kept being mentioned. With nothing to lose execpt having the horse pts I started giving him a diluted amount of a really good quality one( which included the ' mother' ) every day and he stopped getting the attacks almost completely. The one time he had a bad one again was when an order was late and I tried a cheap option.
Might be worth looking into. xxxx

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I have a cat that's had struvites before and he only drinks bottled water. Diet helps some, and I also do not let him have water from the tap. I am particular about his bottled water. Our water was mineral heavy at one of our houses, and I have no idea if it would contribute, but I just wanted to cover all bases.

Did you need to have a scan to diagnose the stones? Honey is on her second lot of antibiotics after further tests as the infection was immune to the first lot so she's had a longer course this time of a different type. No improvement yet so assuming stones. Is it an expensive operation? How quickly did they decide the op was necessary. Just want to get her sorted as quickly as possible now as feel so bad for her.
