Blade wash alternatives?

Hello all,
Any blade wash alternatives? Have read on a few pages about people using Rubbing alcohol but none of the shops, chemists, DIY shops have even heard of the stuff. Have read on a few pages about people using just water and dish soap? Have also heard of people using Kerosene but am very reluctant to try it as my lad is quite the sensitive snowflake. Has anyone ever used any of these things or have any other suggestions? My horse looks like a mammoth and it's just getting desperate 😂 Thanks in advance!
 
Your post doesn't really make sense, what are you wanting to wash? I just use a normal clipper oil on my blades and have never washed the horse first, they get a good groom and hot clothed afterwards, it has never done my clippers or blades any harm.
 
I've always been taught that whilst clipping you must dip the blade teeth in blade wash to stop dirt and hair from building up 😬
 
A brush now and again to remove hair and oil is all I ever use, clippers are well over 10 years old, never heat up and clip several every year.

Never heard of doing that before.
I just brush off, add oil when needed and give time to cool down if they get hot.
Unless you remove the blades from the electric clippers then you are taking a risk dipping them into a cleaning fluid whilst they are still attached to the electric clippers!
 
When I learnt to clip nearly half a century ago I was taught to have a tub of clipper oil and to put the running blades into it frequently. The hair and dirt come out from between the blades. A quick wipe on a rag and carry on clipping. I don't know if it is this or luck but the only horse to ever get clipper rash was one where I tried a spray blade wash instead.
 
Just clipper oil is fine, never dip your clippers in anything! If you need to clean the blades, remove from your clipper and clean in surgical spirit or meths. Spray with clipper oil and reassemble. If you dip the blades in wash or kerosene,or diesel etc whilst the clipper is running, you draw the fluid into the head bearings and motor. This will wash out the bearings and cause excess friction. Possibly cause you motor failure if it gets further into the motor.
 
Have to say I use surgical spirit to wash my blades and I'd never be without it now. Bonus is that it instantly cools hot blades too! so instead of getting one of those ice sprays I just whip the blades off, give them a quick swish about in surgical spirit, dry them, put them back on and re-oil and I'm away.
