I think im going to have to clip Digby before our first event if he carries on loosing his summer coat like he is now (he has a rug on too!)

I have only ever used medium/standard blades but wonder if it may be best to use a fine blade for our first clip to get it short and neat (he will be out competing quite a bit) and then just go on to mediums through the winter or are do you find they are too fine?

I only ever use medium blades - I think it's really hard to get a good finish with fine blades. If it's any consolation, I'll be clipping on the weekend

ETA, plus this time of year, my mare grows coat so quickly that even with fine blades I'd have to do her quite frequently! I can be a bit quicker with the mediums.

fine blades tend to give that skinned look esp on greys duns and palominos. i find that normal A2 s give the best finish. i started clipping a couple of weeks ago i love it!!

Fine blades are really difficult to get looking good.... this was my mare with fine blades

These were my last resort after my others died

Stick with the medium!! (my first ever clip was embarrassingly better than my second!)

Worked really well for the star though

Oh dear coffee-bean!

Shall stick with my mediums then and shall hope they do a good job for his first clip.
